Andrew Boyer: Coffee Lover and Home Coffee Roaster

Home roasting coffee was the thing that really sparked my interest in specialty coffee and eventually led to this podcast.  I have been home roasting for about a year and a half and very much enjoy it.  Home roasting is a great hobby that is part science, part creative, and totally delicious.

Previous episodes in the home coffee roasting series have discussed DIY methods for roasting coffee including roasting in the oven or on the stovetop and also dedicated home roasting coffee machines.

This episode will cover some excellent options where you can find and purchase green coffee beans that you can roast at home.

Where to Buy Green Coffee Beans:

1. Mr. Green Beans:

Mr. Green Beans is an excellent coffee shop located on North Mississippi Ave in Portland Oregon that sells green coffee beans as well as educational material and coffee roasting and brewing supplies.  They also sell supplies and green beans online at www.diycoffeeroasting.com.

2. Sweet Maria’s:

Sweet Maria’s is as close to a one-stop shop for coffee roasting supplies, brewing supplies, and green coffee beans as you can get.  They have an incredible, large selection of different green coffee beans.  I highly recommend exploring their website and seeing the amazing variety of coffee they offer.

3. Amazon

While Mr. Green Beans and Sweet Maria’s are dedicated, specialty coffee shops, you can also find green coffee beans on Amazon.  There is a lot of variability here, with some very low quality coffee mixed with some delicious coffee.  One particular coffee that I have enjoyed roasting that I found on Amazon is a Costa Rica Nectar coffee (click here for a link to this coffee on Amazon.com).
