Best Specialty Coffee in Vermont (RR28)

Best Specialty Coffee in Vermont

There is some seriously amazing coffee in Vermont.  The days of Green Mountain Coffee being the only player in town are long gone.

I was recently in Vermont for my brother’s wedding and to visit family.  During this trip I also visited several amazing coffee shops and local coffee roasters.  In this podcast episode I’m taking you on this trip with me and we are going to discuss the amazing coffee in Vermont.

Coffee Roasters

Carrier Roasting Company

An absolutely incredible coffee roaster from the small town of Northfield, Vermont.  Carrier is a hidden gem that I suspect won’t be hidden for long.  These guys are one of my favorite up-and-coming coffee roaster.  I expect to hear a lot about them in the near future.

Check out their amazing coffee at www.carrierroasting.com.

Brio Coffeeworks

Brio Coffeeworks is an excellent coffee roaster from Burlington, Vermont.  They do a robust wholesale business with local coffeeshops, markets, restaurants and hotels.

Their coffee is absolutely excellent.  I would definitely recommend that you try a bag or two.  Check Brio Coffeeworks out at www.briocoffeeworks.com.

802 Coffee

802 is a source of pride for Vermonters.  It is our one and only area code for the entire state.  You are likely to see 802 bumper stickers or T-shirts.  And you can also find 802 coffee.  Capital Grounds, the company behind 802 coffee, got its start in the late 1990s in the small state capital Montpelier.

802 coffee offers some excellent coffees with a great variety of flavors and roast levels.  There really is something for everyone here.  Do you enjoy a light roast, delicate Ethiopian coffee?  Or maybe instead you prefer a dark roast?  They have both and everything in between.  I particularly enjoy their honey-processed coffees from Costa Rica and Zambia.  Damn they are good.

Check out their offerings at 802coffee.com and rock some 802 pride with your morning coffee.

Coffee Shops

Onyx Tonics

Onyx Tonics is a hip, friendly coffee tasting bar.  The team at Onyx Tonics really dials in the brewing process and method for each coffee to highlight the unique flavors and your tasting experience.  Yes, they have espresso and milk based drinks but their real focus and passion here is coffee.

Their rotating coffee offerings come from an some of the best roasters around…like Brio, Onyx Coffee Labs, Heart, Madcap, and George Howell.  This is an awesome place to try out different unique and amazing coffee.

Catalyst Coffee Bar

Catalyst Coffee Bar is a hidden gem located on Main St. in the cute Vermont town of St. Albans.  This coffee shop is comfortable, beautifully designed and welcoming.  They focus on the siphon brewing technique and love talking to their customers about how it works.

Great coffee, great fresh French pastries in the back from Red House Sweets, a little bakery located in the same space as Catalyst.  Cool, delicious combination concept.
